The rapid growth of world population confronts mankind with one of the most important tasks, that of producing high-quality and high-grade food. It is achieved today by active development of industrial livestock, fisheries and poultry, which in turn require the priority growth rates of feed production.  For normal growth of animal muscle mass the feed must be well balanced, i.e. maintain a certain ratio of grains and proteins of plant and animal origin. Defining an optimal protein balance has become a prerequisite for the effective organization of successful fodder industry.

When fed to animals and poultry, conventional crushed grain without the necessary protein and vitamin supplements is inefficient and uncompetitive. The share of grain components in the total feed, developed for example in Russia in 2009, amounted to over 70%. Feed producers in countries with well-developed livestock are constantly striving to reduce the share of the grain (up to 40 - 45%) by adding the protein components and, preferably, the animal protein. Fishmeal dominates in the world feed additives markets of animal origin; production and supply of fishmeal, for obvious reasons, decreases steadily and leads to rising prices for the product. In some cases, fishmeal is also not safe to use, since it contains heavy metals and other toxic substances that have a negative impact on human health.

Production of microbial and yeast feed proteins is a well-known alternative to fishmeal. However, the traditional raw materials for yeast protein - vegetables and some hydrocarbons (paraffin oil) - are limited, and do not permit today the required marketable production.

Full replacement for fish meal and yeast traditional proteins is a product manufactured by biotechnological method from natural gas and oil associated gas, containing sufficient amount of methane, and produced under the trademark GAPRIN®.

Beneficial use of oil associated gas is a major technical and economic issue of oil extraction; it requires substantial investment thereby reducing the level of oil industry profitability.  Oil associated gas considered as a raw material for protein    GAPRIN® production can not only provide an economically viable solution to utilization of  any amount  of oil associated gas, but also makes available to the market a useful and largely requested feed additive which does not require special storage conditions and is easy for transportation.

GAPRIN® - a high quality protein with wide and ever-growing applications - is an inactivated biomass of methane - oxidized bacteria “Methyllococcus capsulatus”. These bacteria are not pathogenic, non-toxic, and are naturally grown and not subjected to genetic manipulation.

More than 10 years of industrial production of GAPRIN® has shown consistent quality subject, of course, to compliance with the simple rules and parameters of technological requirements.
Safety research, performed both on laboratory animals and animals fed with GAPRIN®, as an additive, in natural conditions, has shown that the material does not have toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic and cocanserogenic properties.  Optimal doses of GAPRIN® do not change the generative functions and have no negative impact on animals’ generation.

Extensive use of GAPRIN® in compound feeds for farm animals, birds and fishes has shown its high nutritive value and friendliness, as well as the absence of contraindications for the use of different products prepared for human nutrition.
The quality of protein GAPRIN® is equivalent to proteins of animal origin (fish and meat and bone meals), which allows its use extensively as a substitute for fishmeal in the feed rations.
An additional advantage of GAPRIN®, compared to proteins of animal origin, is the presence of B- group vitamins and in quantities the animals require (especially with regard to vitamin B12).

Optimal  GAPRIN® dosages in the feed of farm animals are different and evaluated as follows (in % by weight of the diet):

Pigs during rearing and fattening: up to 5.0;
Piglets and growing pigs: up to 4.0;
Adult bird: 2.5 – 4.0;
A young bird, including Broilers: 4.0 – 6.0;
Calves: 3.0 – 5.0;
Sheep: up to 5.0;
Fish (carp): 10.0 – 30.0.

GAPRIN® manufacturing technology, and the product itself, do not have a noticeable impact on the environment because the technology does not provide for the release into the environment of the gas-and water-flows and there are no components in the product which can pollute the environment.

On the basis of extensive research GAPRIN ® is recommended as a source of protein in feed for farm animals, birds and fish all over Russia and CIS. GAPRIN® has also been used as a feed for farm animals in Bulgaria, Turkey and Malaysia.

GAPRIN® production technology is fully developed and well tested in practice and protected by international patents. The technology and the trade mark GAPRIN® is a joint ownership of “Advanced Technology and Engineering Ltd” (UK) and CJSC "INCOR ENGINEERING" (RF).
Given the significant potential of valuable substances and components in GAPRIN ®, ATEL is currently completing development of the extraction processes of deoxyribonucleic and ribonucleic acids from the protein. Taking into account the significant value of and important demand for these acids from the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries, this will manifestly increase the economic efficiency of GAPRIN® production.
